Water Damage FAQs

How do you dry out a floor after water damage?

Answer

To dry a floor after water damage, first stop the water source when it is safe, protect people from electrical or contamination hazards, and remove standing water using methods appropriate to the situation. Move wet contents away from the area and contact qualified mitigation professionals when water is extensive, contaminated, trapped, or affecting multiple materials.

Fans alone may not dry moisture beneath flooring, underlayment, cabinets, walls, or the subfloor. Professional mitigation can include extraction, controlled airflow, dehumidification, moisture monitoring, and selective material removal. Do not reinstall finishes until the assembly is dry and ready to rebuild. Westpeak does not present reconstruction as a substitute for professional drying. After mitigation is complete, we can evaluate damaged materials and provide flooring replacement and related interior reconstruction where needed.
