Water Damage FAQs

How long does it take for a floor to rot from water damage?

Answer

There is no single timeline for a floor to rot after water damage. Deterioration depends on the flooring and subfloor materials, how much water is present, temperature, ventilation, whether moisture is trapped, the source of the water, and how quickly extraction and drying begin.

Wood-based materials can swell, delaminate, stain, or lose strength before visible rot is obvious. Moisture may also remain beneath finished flooring even when the surface feels dry. Prompt professional assessment is important when water has reached seams, underlayment, cabinets, walls, or the subfloor. Avoid assuming a floor is safe based only on appearance. After mitigation and moisture evaluation are complete, Westpeak can assess reconstruction boundaries and provide flooring replacement and installation where damaged materials cannot be retained.
