Answer
There is no universal maximum hole size for a drywall patch. The method changes as the opening becomes larger and depends on its location, edge condition, drywall thickness, available framing, and whether secure backing can be installed.
Tiny anchor holes may need only filling and surface finishing. Medium openings often require a fitted drywall piece with backing, tape, and joint compound. Large damaged sections may be cut back to sound material or framing and replaced with a larger sheet. Ceiling patches require particular attention to support. Texture and paint preparation may extend beyond the opening so the finished repair transitions naturally. A patch should not rely on loose, wet, or crumbling edges. Westpeak can review photos and measurements, then determine whether a patch or broader drywall replacement is appropriate.
